ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said that he is accountable for an offshore company he owned, but so was Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“I am accountable for all allegations against me, but so is prime minister Nawaz Sharif,” he said while talking to the media at his Bani Gala residence after his return from the United Kingdom. He said that he would explain his position first over allegations regarding his offshore company before he raises any questions for the prime minister in the National Assembly session.
A private TV channel reported that Imran was speaking about an offshore company Niazi Services Limited which he made in 1983 to evade taxes in the days he was playing country cricket. The PTI chairman said that he chose to evade taxes as he was not a resident of the United Kingdom. He said that he was anxiously waiting for the prime minister’s speech in the National Assembly.
“I am curiously waiting for the prime minister’s address to the parliament,” he said, and asked if Nawaz Sharif would also listen his speech in the National Assembly. Prime Minister Nawaz will attend a parliament session to answer the questions of the opposition on the Panama Papers.
“Everyone knew that the chief justice would reject the government’s terms of references (TORs). How can a person who has been alleged of a crime also suggest ToRs to probe the allegations,” he questioned while speaking about the TORs that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali rejected.
