Train derailed: 24 dead, rise in casualties feared
KHANEWAL: As many as 21 passengers sustained injuries when two bogies of a Karachi-bound train derailed near Makhdoompur Railway Station, here on Monday.
The train packed with passengers was coming from Rawalpindi. The sources informed that the accident was caused due to a technical fault related to change of track. However investigations are in progress to ascertain the actual reason.
Rescue teams started rescue operation and shifted the injured persons to District Headquarters Hospital. The passengers in another four trains including Karakoram Express, Quetta Express, Millat Express and Sandal Express, faced problems due to the accident.
Emergency has been imposed across the district hospitals and all the doctors and the paramedics have been called to their duties.
Soon after the incident, a good number of persons from nearby villages rushed to the site with eatables and drinks to serve the injured.
